nesting instinct

homes and habitats

the bare branches of winter reveal the hidden-world habitat of birds .  true Do-It-Yourselfers

, they scavenge strands of blue plastic and weave them like ribbons.  they unfurl a cigarette butt into a tuft of down; wood shavings left from a woodworker’s project, moss from a stream, and straw from the garden,  all are transformed into insulation, a comfortable pillow, or the foundation upon which they will build their home.
