birthdays are always big celebrations at the studio. it just wouldn’t be a celebration without some sweets. i made a variation of a traditional southern dessert, red velvet cake. most recipes call for a bottle of red food coloring. i thought fresh beets might do the trick. a good way to put a healthy twist on this southern classic.
right down the street from my house lives one of athens’ favorite landmarks; ”the tree that own’s itself”. it is said that around 1880, colonel william henry jackson deeded the tree ownership of the land it sat on and the 8 feet surrounding the tree. click here for more stories about the tree.
in spirit of the amazing weather, i decided to take a walk through the historic dearing street neighborhood and gander at the lovely homes, gardens, and pay the tree a visit.
