balanced and peaceful. nancy and garland's home
homes and habitats
today we are sharing the new orleans home of artists nancy rhett, garland robinette, and their daughter; charley. another inspiring place…. enjoy!
Garland and I are both artists and love the peace and quiet of nature but also the convenience and the energy of the city we love. Our house allows us to have the best of both worlds.
peace flags purchased from the beauty everyday etsy shop. they bless my cooking, I swear they are helping!
The grasshopper green room is my 12 year old daughter’s. Her name is Charley and she helped design the room with me, picking color and the chocolate brown and white modern damask. Her inspiration was Sucre, a wonderful gelato shop on Magazine Street owned by a friend of ours. Most of the art in the room she and I did together. The chest of drawers were a changing table when she was a baby! It is a happy room.
The living room and kitchen are separated by a big fireplace. The portraits were painted by my husband, Garland Robinette. This is where we hang and entertain.
I designed and painted the chandeliers in the house and they were custom made from fallen trees after hurricane Katrina…
New Orleans has such amazing iron work. The master bed is made from an old driveway gate updated with a beautiful modern base. I think every antique table needs a plastic budda on top of it to keep it honest:-)

My yoga and art studio is in the house behind my kitchen which allows me to work and stay connected to what is going on with our pre-teen daughter, Charley.
The house has a very private garden beyond the car park. Old flag stones lead up to the house.
The outdoor spaces are where we spend a lot of time and I limited color in the garden and created a relaxing green oasis with a pond and fountain. The long walk back to the house from the busy streets of uptown provides a mindful stroll through nature before entering the house which is full of color and form.
Much of the year the modern french doors which open out onto deeply covered porches are open allowing us to enjoy the rustling bamboo and the sound of water as we move about the house and our studios.
