The Langston-Daniel House, circa 1820, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is home to Brick House Studio and Gardens – a gallery venue for rotating exhibitions of artwork by local and visiting artists.
I first lived in the house in 1977, and shared the place with fellow art students. I then moved to nearby Athens and continued to keep a studio space in the Brick House. Eventually, I returned and made the old home my residence where my children had room to grow and play.
After purchasing the property in 1993, it has been an honor and pleasure to be the current “caretaker”, to carefully oversee it’s restoration, and to open the house more and more to visitors and guests who invariably remark on it’s living character and timeless charm.
As my relationship with the Brick House transitions from being my home to more of an events venue, I hope to invite activities, artists, and individuals who appreciate and help to promote the property’s natural healing energy. The house definitely has a feeling of “sanctuary”. Along these lines, I’m very excited about the Spring of 2010 when the Brick House Studio in conjunction with the Georgia Museum of Art, will host a program and exhibition focusing on the Healing Arts.
