pickled chanterelles
garden to table
in athens there is a place where we all love to eat. located in quaint five points, five and ten serves up meals made with locally grown and fresh ingredients.
this summer has been a good year for chanterelle mushrooms, the results from all of our spring rain. chef hugh acheson has been pickling the mushrooms and using them in risottos, pizzas, and accents to other vegetables.
thanks hugh for sharing your recipe with us!
blueberry pickin'
instant inspiration
two summers ago we went blueberry picking.
a friend of ours planted tons of bushes 25 years ago on land nearby,
and she takes friends every year to go pick, have a picnic, and swim in the lake.
we walked into the field and each of us took off down an aisle and went at it,
dropping them by the handful in our baskets. some we froze, some we cooked
cobbler with, and some we ate before we were even home.

pie lab. give us some pie, we'll talk
homes and habitats
a neutral space + a slice of pie = conversation
southerners know it best… food and conversation go hand in hand. the group; project m had a great idea to start pie lab, a space which strives to bring the community together through pie…and good design. project m is a collective of emerging artists and designers who develop projects throughout the world… hoping to do good and make a change.
their latest project; pie lab is located in greensboro, alabama which is in one of america’s poorest counties. hale county is no stranger to innovative design and ideas as it is the base camp for rural studio who has been integrating design and the community since 1993.
hale county is such a special place and we are always excited to see the new and inspiring projects going on there, the latest being pielab. i can’t wait for my next trip…..i will definitely be stopping in for a slice of pie and a word or two.
we found out about this here
