Turn the River movie full

a couple of weeks ago, we made our way down to plains, georgia.  everything in plains revolves around jimmy carter, peanuts, and most often both.  we even had some peanut ice cream.

our first stop was at the historical site where jimmy grew up; his boyhood farm.  the farm sat on 360 acres where his family grew peanuts cotton, corn, and vegetables to sell. we were told that we had just missed the president, he brought his grandson to the farm for a visit.

we then drove into downtown where we visited the school that he and rosalynn attended and saw the old campaign headquarters.

the next day we attended a church service where president carter was teaching sunday school.  at the end of the service he takes pictures with everyone.  the church was designed by carter’s interior designer for the white house, hence the 70′s vibes.

sharing some pics from our very “jimmy carter” weekend…..

last spring i remember reading an article about a local landscape gardener who used only edible plants….i thought, finally!!  i have always wondered why this wasn’t more of a trend considering vegetables and fruits are so beautiful and it just makes sense.  what a great way for your neighborhood to see and learn growing cycles and understand where our food comes from, and for you to eat some home grown food.

here is an inspiring slideshow from treehugger.com.

DSCN3618 it’s hot!  if i get out to the idea shack early, i can paint from 8:30 – 10:30 before breaking out in a sweat.  i can’t wait for cooler weather!!  the pokeberries are starting their inspirational transition from green to purple to hot pink.  i have been capturing it all in watercolors, drawings, and oil paintings.
