in the country

March 18th, 2010

still too wet to dig, but great weather for driving out in the country!  signs of spring are everywhere: daffodils, red maples, greening pastures, and stormy weather. spring storms result when warm wet air is pushed away by cold fronts blowing in from the north.  it often makes for spectacular skies.

here are a few recent pics from country drives

60 miles south of us near juliette, georgia, is an old homestead from the 1800’s.  it is preserved as a state park.  we headed down last saturday; a typical, beautiful, stormy spring day, and got a lot of ideas.
there are two houses, still mostly filled with original furniture and fixtures.  there are all manner of workshops , barns and outbuildings.  they made everything they needed right there on the farm.  it’s inspiring and interesting to imagine living that life, with nothing to distract you from the business of living.
here is some of the beauty to see there…

seasonal bloom

March 16th, 2010

on a country drive i found this old book on wildflowers at an antique market off the side of the highway.  it’s hard not to love old books…..i love the smell , the aged pages, the handwritten notes, and the illustrations.

i can’t wait for the wildflowers to start blooming!
