honey banana french toast
garden to table
we somehow made it home from the store with a handful of very bruised bananas. my husband made up this yummy concoction using up some of the bananas and some local honey from the farmers market.
recipe follows
ingredients
3 eggs
1/2 banana
2 Tbsp honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
a dash of salt
4 slices of good bread
butter for the pan and topping
directions
-combine eggs, banana, honey, vanilla, and salt. i used an immersion blender but i think it would taste good with larger pieces of banana in the batter too.
-heat up a cast iron skillet to medium heat and coat with butter.
-dredge a piece of bread in the egg mixture and cook on pan until it is browned.
-top with butter, honey, and bananas.
***i bet some pecans would be a great topping too.
tire garden
instant inspiration
we got a bunch of tires to plant potatoes in last year, but never got around to it. this year i put them out front, filled them with potting soil, and went crazy at the store, getting everything that struck my fancy. all the plants are doing super good. i think the black tires soak up the heat and keep it warm, and the curved tops help keep the moisture in, so the plants really like it. now i’m looking for more tires…
more embroidery
in the country
i started a new embroidery project. i got a sassafras branch and ‘drew’ it with green thread. that was tiring on the arms, so i drew the rest of it with my new favorite disappearing ink. i spent most of the weekend putting it in the embroidery hoop and stitching it up. it was fun. not done yet, but just a few more finishing touches. more soon..
