buttermilk blueberry yumminess

garden to table

July 11th, 2011

i set sail to try to make a blueberry upside down cake.  not wanting to use the 2 sticks of butter that should have gone into the dessert i decided to use a little less.  i figured that if anything i was really making a cobbler if the upside down part didn’t happen.  as i suspected i ended up with a cobbler.

green is back

in the country

July 7th, 2011

it’s no fun seeing brown fields and pastures before summer even starts.  april and may we hardly had any rain, but thankfully, the last couple weeks of june we started getting rain.  the only thing is, the rain usually came with violent thunderstorms, power outages, and trees and limbs down everywhere.  at least we got some rain.  now the pastures and fields are all a vibrant green again, and driving through the country is , once again, a trip through a green land.

sunflower farm festival

homes and habitats

July 6th, 2011

athens cut the funding for fireworks this year.  my doggies were quite happy about that but we still wanted to do something fun for the 4th.  so we headed to the sunflower farm festival in rutledge, GA.

the festival had a ton of vendors selling their handmade goods as well as food vendors.  we got some roasted corn, boiled peanuts, local BBQ, and some local farm-freshly churned ice cream. there also was a little rustic amphitheater where we sat on hay bails and watched a local family band; kids played banjo and mandolin, mom and dad played bass and guitar.  they had their 6 year old daughter sing her song that she wrote about a little bully at school named cindy loo.  it doesn’t get much cuter than that.

while we were there, we watched a storm roll in….i loved seeing the dark sky sit above the golden fields of sunflowers.

i was happy to find out that the farm is open daily from 7am to 9pm.  i could see it being a nice place for a stroll though the fields without so the crowd from the festival.  i will surely be back.
