Much of Southern cuisine stems from Africa. Collard greens, peanuts, sweet potatoes.....are all African Ingredients.

-add the rest of the ingredients and cook until sweet potatoes are cooked
-enjoy over a bed of rice or on it's own

kinfolk community gathering
we were very happy to discover kinfolk magazine when they published their first issue. we were even happier to be able to contribute, in a small way, to a few of their issues through our photos. so, now, we are equally happy to be hosting a dinner, here in athens, georgia, on their behalf...
on saturday, may 4, we will be hosting one of an on-going series of community gatherings- this one, a flower potluck. tickets are available here. there will be concurrent dinners happening all over the globe- athens is in good company!
we will walk through the garden, cut some flowers then have a simple flower arranging workshop led by rinne. we will also have food & drink provided by our friend nathan brand of the national and shotgun dinners. our friend hope hilton will be illustrating something special for each guest, and kristen and rinne will be talking photographs, so we will share them with you soon.
so, until then go grab some flowers, wherever you are and enjoy them.

Awesome Barn
On one of our country drives we came across this super awesome barn. I've never seen one exactly like it around here. Can't tell if it was to store cotton , or what, but it had an old wagon underneath.

lou's flowers
our friend lou kregel has been painting huge chrysanthemums on walls, roofs, and doors all over athens (and beyond) for years. her flowers are a welcome burst of color, sometimes in the most unexpected of places. she has painted over 30 mums thus far. thanks, lou!

sowing seeds
We just moved to a place with a big garden in the country. I have been chipping away at planting it and yesterday I finally had an entire day to work on it. We got most of our seeds from seed exchange places with heirloom varieties, many that are new to me. We are getting excited for a plentiful season and making lots of meals from our garden!

spring
This is how spring happens sometimes. you go to bed with bare branches against the starry sky,but after a night rain and a warm night, you wake up the next day and everything is solid chartreuse!

Details of an old house
These are some close ups of an old abandoned house we found. I love the old doorways and the abstract quality of decay.

green popping through
Yesterday I went for a walk in the woods and loved all of the green popping through the browns of winter. A lovely sight that only lasts a couple of days until the entire forest is covered in green!
