there are so many old tobacco barns in western north carolina and eastern tennessee. around every bend, it seems, you come upon another stunning scene. this one was right on the side of the road with roses growing at one end. the combo of rusted tin and old wood was too much!

in north carolina, near marshall, i had a great time going around hairpin turns among green hills searching for old tobacco barns and deserted houses. our last stop was to visit suzy and todd in their handmade house. it's only 10 x 15 feet,but has a huge yard and gardens,and old barn,an outdoor shower and an outhouse. it's a mini paradise.

i recently visited some friends in marshall, n.c. there are a lot of beautiful old barns around there, and we went exploring. here's one -

wedding flower brigade!
a few weekends ago, a friend got married at sweet olive farm. instead of hiring a florist for the wedding, a group of us convened at the farm the day before, with cuttings from our own gardens and buckets of seasonal flowers grown at 3 porch farm.
we set up two assembly lines: buckets of ingredients sat on one side and lines of mason jars on the other...and we arranged flowers the whole morning. we had a mix of experienced arrangers and novices and everyone helped each other out.
it ended up being a great way for all of the different friends & family of the bride and groom to meet and get to know one another!
