pinks + greygreens
there are lots of silvery-greens in our garden right now and they pair perfectly with the hints of pink that are popping up too (although some of these pink hydrangeas came from a friend's yard)...

seasonal photoshoot ingredients
the other day i had a photoshoot and needed some seasonal ingredients...they did not have to be actual flowers, but i wanted my photographs to have a botanical feeling, but also one that did not feel store-bought. i walked through the yard and cut a few specimens, and also went and gathered some of my pressed specimens from my studio. each cutting brought a pop of color to my shoot, plus i got to enjoy them in my studio afterwards...the gardenias, in particular, were so fragrant!

valentine's day flowers
years ago, i would do flowers for many restaurants around town and also sell them at the market. it was a fun time. here are some arrangements i made one valentine's day for a local restaurant...it is interesting because many of these flowers are not even blooming around here yet, this year. i love how nature is unpredictable.

dried flora arrangement
one more arrangement using found flora for the winter season (well, it may not be the last one ever, but the last one for now...)...the other day, i came home to a bundle of beauty at my door, left by my friends mandy and steve. i love that mandy knows how much i love seedheads, pods, and dried things, so i went to work making a simple arrangement using her ingredients. i love this container- it is a cast iron shape with a built-in kenzan (a japanese type of flower frog), which makes for easy arranging- almost fool-proof, really. i love how these types of arrangements last and last. to dress them up, you can hit them with a little gold spray paint- yes, i love a hint of gold spray paint this time of year (see here and here)...enjoy!
still lives, at mandy's
i was recently at mandy's for a new little collaboration (more on that soon). i love wandering around their land and photographing things growing in their fields. i also love wandering close to mandy's flower shack...there are always little still lives here and there, arranged just for beauty. enjoy.
