we have had a longer heat than normal this year...because of this, our dahlias are barely hanging in there...it has just been too hot.

so, when our friend mandy dropped off this bouquet of dahlias and cosmos to me, i was so happy! i have been in a dahlia-deficit...enjoy!

pretty pinks

there are many shades of pink in the garden right now...zinnias, castor bean, and morning glory...all are pretty on their own, and together!

there are lots of silvery-greens in our garden right now and they pair perfectly with the hints of pink that are popping up too (although some of these pink hydrangeas came from a friend's yard)...

sweet peas!

i always have a hard time naming my favorite flower, when asked.

but, every year around this time, a batch of wild sweet peas grows on an embankment near my house. and, if i were asked to name my favorite flower on the day that i noticed the sweet peas had flowered, i would most certainly proclaim sweet peas as my favorite.

in the studio

i always get a little bit of spring fever...i try to be outside as much as i can and walk my garden daily and take photographs of different things as they come up in the garden or bloom...and, often, i bring these things into my studio. sometime i photograph them, or make flower arrangements or light drawings, but sometimes i like what is leftover from these tinkerings best...the petals, stamens, leaves...especially the colors of everything...
