Pulaski Heights BBQ
Our friend Chuck Ramsey just opened up a new BBQ in town, Pulaski Heights BBQ. We walked down and had a sweet little dinner outside last night. They have most things that you would find at a typical BBQ...minus the white bread. We ordered up.....pulled pork, chicken leg, smoked pecans, pickled veggies salad, smoked potato salad, squash casserole, and some mac and cheese. We loved everything...and the smoked potato salad was amazing! If you are lucky you may even see a train go by...or a tuba player playing playing on the tracks. We saw both!

A young bird
The other day I went to a few holiday market at the Depot Gallery in Farmington. My favorite find was this young man Atticus who was selling these sweet drawings of birds.
Keep drawing Atticus!

Sweet Gum trees have great star shaped leaves. In the fall, they can turn anywhere from a clear light yellow to orange,to bright red to dark purple and maroon. Here's some views of sweet gums in the field.

Brown Parcel Press: at the studio
Not too long ago we visited the studio of Megan Fowler of Brown Parcel Press. Her studio took our breath away to say the least. This century old general store- turned studio is a huge inspiration and creative force for their work. If you didn't catch the story that we did on their lovely calendars....take a peek.
enjoy!!

Hearty Dinner Rolls
On Thanksgiving I decided to take on the task of making dinner rolls. I have made my fair share of breads and we all know that most recipes require lots of attention and precision. I remember these whole wheat dinner rolls that I made a while back that are quick and easy. My toddler even had fun helping me make the roll shapes.
Ingredients
2 cups tepid water
2 packages of active dry yeast
1/4 cup honey or sugar
5 Tbsp melted butter, reserving 1 Tbsp
2 eggs, beaten
2 Tsp Sea salt
3 cups AP flour, plus more for making rolls
3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
Directions
-Mix the water and yeast in a non-reactive bowl for 5 minutes, or until foamy
-Add the sweetener, 4 Tbsp butter, and eggs and mix
-Add the dry ingredients and mix until all ingredients are combined
-Grease a large bowl
-Round the dough into a large ball and place in bowl
-Cover bowl with plastic wrap of a damp towel place in a sunny window or warm place for an hour or until doubled
Remove dough and place on a lightly floured surface
-Cut dough in half
-Divide each half into 9 or so parts
-Butter a 9 x 13 inch pan
-With the palm of your hand, flatten the dough
-Take all sides and press into middle of the piece of dough and make a roll form
-Place roll into pan, smooth side up
-Do this until all rolls are made and are snuggling in the pan
-Let rolls rest in a warm place for 45 minutes, they will rise
-Bake in a Pre-heated oven at 400 degrees
-Rolls should bake for 35-40 minutes and will have a nice Golden Brown Coloring
-Serve warm with butter and honey or along side a hearty meal

Brown Parcel Press, From Scratch
Every year I look forward to the new Brown Parcel Press Calendars. Each month is a sweetly illustrated depiction of life on the farm...in the South.
Artist Megan Fowler resides on a farm in Sparta, Georgia with her husband, daughter, pigs, goats, and chickens. She prints in a lovely Old General Store.
If you would like to purchase a limited edition Calendar...visit here or here.
Here is a sneak peek at the calendar and a little video showing a little bit about her creative process.
Check back next week.... share some views of her sweet Letter Press studio that we recently visited.

The fall colors are waning. A few bright spots here and there, but mostly subtle plays of color, as evidenced here.

Little Houses of Loudsville
We just returned from a day hiking near Loudsville, Georgia. On the way to our destination I spotted this little compound of little houses. We walked around the quiet little compound and realized that it was a campground of 50-75 individual little houses. Each house was entirely different from the other, like they were built by different people. In the center of the compound there was an outdoor chapel.
I have never seen anything like it!
