something about bare trees in the fog really stirs my heart. it’s like the trees bare souls are bathing in the mystery, soaking it up… and maybe they are!

every year, our friend lamar has a bonfire. he burns all of the accumulated brush from the past year and invites friends and family over to enjoy it. i love to see the house glow at night against the dark sky. it was a fun evening!

at the lake

i visited clark’s hill lake recently. georgia has no natural lakes. all we have is man made with a dam. we’ve had a dry year,and all the lakes are down. the mud bottoms revealed are cracked and growing grass. there’s lots of pine trees all around and a storm blowing through, so there was plenty of lonely beauty to experience.

spring like weather

over the holidays, we had a lot of pleasant warm weather. sunny and 60’s in the daytime. a couple of days, it felt more like spring, with grey skies threatening rain and just blowing on by.

crafting in the country

rebecca invited some girlfriends over for coffee, cookies, soup, and eggnog to hang out and do a little crafting. who can resist colored felt? she made a bare tree wall hanging out of felt, and everyone had a great time visiting and cutting out things to sew on the tree. rinne’s mom, lucy, made a white possum hanging upside down. now that’s a southern tree, for sure.

country mornings

all the leaves are gone now. a few still clinging. i love bare trees the best, for they show their beautiful form against the sky. i’ll miss the rustling of the leaves, but the architecture of trees will inspire me all winter.

frost beauty

we had a big frost the other night. all the feilds were white with frost. i went for a walk as the sun started to shine. lots of beauty to take in. a breathtaking blessing to see it all -

well, my sea of gold in the backyard has largely turned to brown or blown away,but yesterday there was a lovely fog to take its place. ever changing beauty in the country.

it’s a long process to produce wood fired pots. first, there’s cutting and hauling and stacking all the wood. then there’s the making and glazing, then the loading, bricking up the doors, then 6 days of firing around the clock. but the hardest week of all is the week after the firing is over,when you have to WAIT for the kilns to cool off so you can see the results! finally the doors are taken down and we can see inside. everyone is anxious to see how it all turned out. there’s winners and losers, surprises and failures. it’s all a continual learning process. luckily for me, i made out like a bandit with lots of good surprises and great textures and colors. yeah!
