we are hosting christmas this year and are planning our menu right now. i made this root vegetable gratin the other day that will be on the menu chistmas eve.
ingredients
butter to grease pan
root vegetables; turnips, rutabaga, parsnips, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onion, radishes, or any other hearty root veggie
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
4 cloves of garlic
1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
freshly ground pepper
1 small block of smoked gruyere, shredded
directions
-pre-heat oven to 400 degrees
-butter a medium size casserole pan
-evenly slice vegetables, thin
-whisk together the wet ingredients, garlic, and salt
-put two layers of sliced vegetables into the casserole dish
-pour 1/2 of the liquid mixture over the layered vegetables
-layer the rest of the vegetables
-sprinkle the cheese and cover with foil
-bake for 30 minutes, covered
-remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes
