i know... sour milk maybe doesn't sound that appetizing. once you try this recipe you will understand. i love to buy this farm fresh milk that sours much quicker than pasteurized milk. i just hate to pour it out. i made this morning bread this weekend and i think this might become a weekend standard around our house.
ingredients
1 stick of butter
1 cup sugar
1 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups unbleached flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour milk
topping
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
directions
-pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
-put the stick of butter in a cast iron pan while the oven pre heats
-when butter is melted, remove from oven and pour into a mixing bowl
-add the eggs, sugar, and vanilla and mix until light fluffy
-mix the dry ingredients together
-slowly add to wet ingredients
-slowly mix in the sour milk
-mix the topping ingredients together and set aside
-pour 1/2 of the cake batter into the cast iron pan
-sprinkle 1/2 of the topping uniformly over the top
-pour the rest of the cake batter and sprinkle the rest of the topping
-bake for 35-40 minutes
-enjoy!
