We recently visited with our friends Mandy and Steve at their farm, 3 Porch Farm. We were there in the Spring when Steve began the Shitake inoculation process....and here we are 5 months later with pounds of mushrooms. It was a little exciting.
We spent the afternoon in the country at 3 Porch Farm. The butterflies in their flower gardens were so magical!
The vines have been growing like crazy all summer long. If you are not careful you can get all tangeled up like this shack. A common scene in the south.
We are starting to see cooler days and nights here and we have been making lots of soups and pies. I got a beautiful Nappa Cabbage in our CSA box this week and made a simple cabbage pie last night.
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
ingredients
1 pie crust
1 tbsp butter 1 large onion, sliced
1 nappa cabbage, sliced
salt and pepper, to taste
6 oz of mozzarella cheese
2 eggs beaten
directions
-saute the onion on medium/low heat for about 5 minutes
-reserve 1/4 of the onion for topping
-add the sliced nappa cabbage
-cool mixture for 5 minutes and drain any liquid
-sprinkle some cheese at the bottom of the pie
-add a layer of the cabbage mixture
-repeat
-pour the beaten egg mixture over the pie
-arrange the reserved onion slices on top
-put the pie in the onion for 40-50 minutes
I passed by this tractor the other day. I think it is safe to assume that it is 'out of order'.
i went for a woods walk recently after a big rain, and was so glad i did. so many amazing mushrooms in their little environments. enjoy!
We stumbled accross this charming garden while we were in Asheville. Tucked away in a neighborhood, it caught my eye.
The beds were lined with rusty farm tools and shovels, painted bottle trees, charms adorning branches, and there was a litlle area filled with metal tonka trucks. We had a fun little visit.
