this is an older georgia home from the first part of the 1800's. it was recently moved and is being stored up. this is the style of so many old old homes that now dot the landscape like grey ghosts. so many are falling down, about to disappear forever.

daffodils
this year the daffodils started to bloom quite early, because of our mild winter. just the other day, i went to the botanical gardens and saw their daffodils in full bloom.

1 Tbsp olive oil
1 teaspoon soy sauce
directions
-wash and half the brussel sprouts
-in a cast iron pan, heat the oil and pan to a very high heat

recipe for press
longtime athenian and friend amy flurry penned her first book this fall,
.
a "DIY guide to being your own publicist", amy's book includes profiles and interviews paired with her own wisdoms on the subject of promoting your story, whatever form that story may take.
amy thoughtfully included rebecca & beauty everyday in one of her chapters, entitled "generating creative content". amy focused on how we here at beauty everyday get together seasonally to photograph and create content for beauty everyday. these creative gatherings include lots of brainstorming & ideas for the future, in addition to providing tangible results. each time we get together to "work" like this, we generate a reservoir of recipes, creative projects and imagery that we can draw from when we are working on our blog.
the chapter includes photographss and observances from one day out at rebecca's house last year.
thanks, amy!
and also to
, who photographed our chapter of the book.

Let there be light
i snuck inside an old house that had been recently moved. it's an old house from 1810-1840 or so. it has two rooms with fireplaces, separated by a central hallway. upstairs is a sleeping loft, and across the back are the unheated rooms for travelers or storage. i snuck inside and was rewarded with the most amazing light!

DIY urban garden
our friends,
, have planted a garden in the lot next to their building.
whether using salvaged industrial parts as containers or fashioning containers from tree bark, they have created something out of nothing.
we first noticed it in the summertime, but their winter garden is full of edibles, as well as honeybees, and we even saw a lizard too.
very inspiring- you can garden anywhere!

kale chips
this is one of our favorite snack foods at our house. it is simple to make and is a great way to trick anyone into eating their greens. i also like to sprinkle on top of salads for a little crunch.
recipe follows
ingredients
kale, i love to use tuscan, aka dinosaur kale but any kale will do
olive oil
salt
directions
-pre- heat oven to 300 degrees
-remove the stem from the kale
-cut into 1 inch pieces
-put in a bowl and lightly toss with olive oil trying to coat each piece
-salt to taste
-it is easiest if you cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper but not necessary
-spread a layer of kale on the cookie sheet. if there is a lot of kale, divide into 2 pans
-place in oven and cook for about 15 minutes, checking often so that the kale does not burn
-your kale chips are done when they are all uniformly crispy
*cooking times may vary due to the water content in the kale

the other day i was driving around looking for inspiration, and just as the light was fading, i came upon these tombstones reflecting the setting sun. i got out to admire, and the name on the tombs was ‘ponder’.......which i did.

my friend has 60 beautiful acres that i love to roam. there’s a deep ravine where a creek runs through. it’s full of oaks and beech trees. this time of year, it’s all shades of grey and brown, with the beech leaves shining out. here’s a look -
