one of the most beautiful places i have ever been is the foothills of the smokey mountains. when we visit we love to stay at the elkmont campground. we love to wander around the clusters of old historic cabins that were built for the loggers many years ago. most cabins are in major disrepair but are fun to see and hope that they will someday be preserved.
stay tuned for more elkmont cabin pics next week!

just outside of athens sits PBR...the piedmont bureau of reclamation. part of the oneta woodworks family, PBR has pile upon pile of old (but very useable) wood waiting to be turned into something special. a series of old buildings houses the whole operation, and a pecan grove and old-growth muscadine vines add some vegetative beauty; the whole landscape is a fitting backdrop for PBR's daily purpose of salvaging old lumber for furniture and interior spaces.

Read Morewisteria
i saw my first bit of wisteria, my first year living in the south. it is something that i will never forget. i was in awe of it's color, the smell, and how it covered the town - it is now one of my favorite times of the year. we have some woods next to our house that is just covered in vines. i have spent a good while just smelling and looking up at the lovely lavender blossoms and lime-colored growth against the white sky.

mystery domes
while driving to florida we passed these domes. i have never seen anything like then before, especially a line of them all equally spaced. upon inspection....they were covered in vines and i can't imagine how amazing they must be when the green leaves fill in. does anyone know what these are?

good ol' junk shop
you do not have to twist my arm to go out to carlton, georgia. there isn't much in carlton except for the best junk shop around. 'neat pieces' is housed in a row of old town buildings and filled to the brim with great finds. the owner jimmy is another great reason to head out there- he is super sweet and always has a good story to share. we have posted on this place many of times but every time you go, it is different! next time you are around carlton- stop by!

old timey seed swap
last year, around this time, we went out to the old timey seed swap at grove creek farm just outside of athens. there was something for everyone: wagon rides, a primitive skills demo, live music, good food, sunshine, and, of course, a seed swap.
visit grove creek farm's website
to see when the next seed swap takes place.
